Making the Mess

THE MESS

We know “Fine Art” is inaccessible to most people and buying something mass produced just feels yucky. At Mess Collabs, we’re situating ourselves in a happy medium, where our goods are affordable, but also made in small batches by hand. We want to weasel our way into your home and set you up with some unique art in places you may not expect it to be. Our useful pieces have some funky flair that make an everyday experience a little special.

THE COLLABS

At our roots we are a collaboration between Mahala Miller and Ness Kent, but our branches are collabs with other artists. We partner with artists and makers to produce a small edition of objects that capture a glimpse of their world and make it into a piece you can take home.

Mahala Miller was born in Grapevine, Texas and graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 2019 with a BFA in painting and in 2020 with a MA in teaching and learning. Her current work is about little glimpses, visions; the images you just get stuck on that represent a whole season of memory. She also loves plein air painting with friends and making custom equipment for her home and studio.

Ness Kent is a nonbinary queer artist who graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 2019 with a BFA in Sculpture. They are originally from Seattle, Washington. In recent years, they have created an ever-expanding taxonomy of shape and form making up an imagined alien world. Ness also loves to bake and visit every swamp they can get their hands on.

Ness and Mahala now reside in New Orleans, Louisiana and are working on creating the Mess
